A weekend of technical woes for Coppins

Josh Coppins has endured a tough round 8 of the MX1 World Championship in Germany as electrical issues hampered the factory Aprilia machine. Coppins headed to the Talkessel circuit in Teutschenthal optimistic of a solid result as both him and the team strive for top 10 results in this closely contested championship.

During the Saturday qualification heat ‘Lizzard’ rode a solid moto posting 12th place and securing a decent gate pick for the Sunday event.

In moto 1 on Sunday Coppins grabbed a decent start racing his number 6 machine through the opening laps inside the top 15, but a small miss-fire began to play havoc as Coppins negotiated the technical yet high speed circuit. Doing his utmost to ‘ride through’ any issues ‘Lizzard’ soldiered on to a 14th position.

As the gate dropped for moto 2 and the riders dropped through the first turn ‘Lizzard’ was down in 17th position. Pushing hard Coppins started to get past the competition, but early into the race he realized that the misfire from race 1 was still there. Relentlessly the New Zealander pushed on getting himself through to 14th place on lap 5. The technical issues where getting worse though, and unfortunately 1 lap later the machine cut out completely, putting a frustrated Coppins out of the race.

“I am really motivated to get the bike into the top 10, both the team and I are putting so much effort in, but this sort of result is not reflecting anything. I will keep giving 100% and hopefully soon the results will come to us. I look forward to Latvia next week.” Commented Coppins.
