Coppins clinches consecutive British title for CAS Honda.

Josh Coppins has clinched his second consecutive British Motocross title, also making it a record sixth consecutive British title for the CAS Honda team. Coppins once again produced a clean sweep, his sixth of the season, at the final championship decider in Matchams Park close to Ringwood.

After running away with the first heat by more than 30 seconds over championship rival and fellow Honda rider, Paul Cooper, Coppins looked set to clinch the title after he grabbed the hole-shot in race two. A third lap fumble almost made for a different outcome when Coppins got cross rutted and was forced off the track, losing his lead to Cooper. “Lizzard’ quickly regained his composure as well as the lead and blasted away to victory and the championship with a lead of more than 40 seconds.

“Qualifying wasn’t so good – I was leading but then ‘Coops’ went a bit faster and got me for pole on the last lap. After I went off the track in the second moto I was riding quite stiff but then I managed to find my rhythm and I came back strongly to win the race. The track was really tough and demanding but I thoroughly enjoyed it. This is the sixth year in a row that CAS has won the title, and to win a domestic championship that many times just goes to show what a great team CAS Honda is,” commented Coppins.
